In some situations people simply need more hand positions. Employing the much proven ergonomic grip body of the GP1, the GP5 introduces a hollow formed composite reinforced ergonomically shaped bar end. Featuring rubberized inserts for positive grip, like all of Ergon’s bar ends, it can be independently positioned relative to the grip and acts as the clamp preventing accidental rotation. The grip itself is available in two sizes. The GP5 is Ergon's largest barend offering.
- Barend size multi-position, 110mm
- Barend made of lightweight Nylon-Composite (GFK) with rubber inserts
- Compatible with bar-plug style mirrors.
- German made rubber compound, latex free, UV stable.
- Right and Left specific grips.
- Available in 2 sizes.
- Available in 3 shifter styles/configurations.
- NOT compatible with carbon handlebars
Offered in Small or Large, this is the thickness of the grip in hand. The Small and Large are the same length and have the same wing size. The only difference is the thickness of the grip in hand. Riders with smaller hands are best to choose the Small size. Riders with large hands are an ideal fit to the Large size. Ultimately, choice of size is a rider personal preference.
Standard: 2 full length grips
GripShift: 2 short grips
Nexus/Rohloff: 1 full length Left grip, 1 short Right grip
Why bar ends?
Bar ends offer the rider additional hand positions. Bar ends also allow greater leverage when pulling on the handlebars. Ergon offers its bar ends in various length to suit the demands of all riders.
Grips arrived as ordered. The grips themselves are very comfortable. The longer ends are exactly what I needed. They are great for relieving pressure from my CMC joint.
This is my third set of Ergon grips. The inner part of the grips get worn through quite quickly. This happened on my last set within the year. This may be due to the increase demand on them for how I am using them, which is mountain biking. They have holes where your thumbs sit.
The website was difficult to navigate. I accidentally selected the wrong kind of grip as I was not familiar with the terminology. It was my error. I mistook the style of grip for material as I had no background knowledge regarding different types of shifters. Although it is easy to blame the user, the format of the site could easily be modified to prevent the error for others. The company will allow returns but with a 60% reduction as the package was opened. The only way I could have realized the error was to open the package. I understand and respect the company’s position. The tone of customer service’s emails was different than I have previously experienced with other companies. I wonder if a modification to the website might prevent the their frustration with dealing with errors such as mine.
I could not be more pleased! These GP5 grips are fantastic! I have had Ergon grips before and these GP5s match all the others I have had with their high quality. The numbness in My hands nearly went away with My change a long time ago of going to Ergon. I decided to make another change with My bike and get a pair of GP5s. The numness in My hands has gone. I really like the stickiness of the rubber compound. Gripping them is as though I had a clay mold made for My hands. The feel is perfect. The upright extensions allow different hond holds to be used. The added height makes it possible for Me to sit up straighter and thereby lessens the strain on My back. Installing these grips has made My bike feeling as though it fits Me perfectly. I was concerned that My B and M mirror might not fit into the handlebar end; but, delightfully, it has fit perfectly. The entire setup looks fantastic! I suggest that You order directly from Ergon and then You will be assured that You get exactly the type and model of grip You want. Thanks a lot. Dave Douglas, Wichita Falls, Texas
First of all these are fantastic grips. Very comfortable and the bar ends are well thought out in terms of their shape. They are very ergonomic just as much as the grips are. I prefer my bar ends angled about 45° upward and it is very comfortable. I alternate between four or five different hand positions to help with my hand numbness and although this doesn’t completely alleviate it, it certainly helps greatly reduce it and I simply enjoy riding more being able to adapt my hand position to the current riding situation (level ground, cruising, powering up hills etc.) the only BUT is (and it’s my own fault ) I didn’t realize until I receive them that I inadvertently selected the wrong style grips so I was bummed at first. I ordered so quickly that I did not even notice there were three different styles depending on the shifter type. So mine were approximately 1 inch too short because I accidentally ordered as if I have grip shifters. I was going to return them but I had already opened the package and the return policy clearly states if the carton is openEd they will not take it back. My solution was to simply cut 1 inch off my old grips which were similar style (but without the bar ends) and I filled in the empty space and although I don’t care for having a seam it really doesn’t matter because my hands cover it when riding so no one would ever notice (or care!) Problem solved and I’m over it. I’ve had older metal bar ends on my old mountain bike and loved them and these are 10x better. Highly recommend. In my opinion I think they should be more like $50 but I gladly paid $70 plus shipping because I knew what I was getting and I’m not disappointed whatsoever. Love them!
I had replaced my stock Specialized grips with the GP5 and wish I had done so sooner. The grips makes it easier to stay comfortable during long rides.
My ride is greatly improved by the new grips from Ergon. Well worth the price. Order direct from Ergon to get the product much quicker than trying to buy through other sites.
